Dottie Love's State Fair of Texas Pix 2005
Y'all, we had the best time ever! The weather was a little cooler this year. Everything ran smoothly. On Friday Sept. 30, we put on the AMZA show with TJ Gibson as Judge, Julie Webb as Show Secretary/Announcer, and Robin Haas as Ringmaster. All my photos are from this show; my husband was excused from the other days. Someone else will have photos from Saturday and Sunday. The Friday show did not pay premiums but had trophies. We also had a Jackpot Color Show and a Costume Show. On Saturday we had conformation seminars in the barn where we were able to compare different animals and sharpen our evaluation skills. Then we went to David and Jim's house in Lancaster where we were treated to wonderful Mexican food and entertained with Bingo games for great prizes. Everyone got to visit the barn where Brenda Tapley and Judy Rohner fell in love with Opal's "Pyrador" puppies. Judy got a male she named Dallas and Brenda got a female (haven't heard the name yet). We played Bingo for $1.00 and $5.00/games to raise funds for AMZA. Donated prizes included T-shirts, art glass vases, electric fence chargers, and--the big prize--a little bottle baby bull calf. Judy won him and has named him Bingo! Surprise entertainment was provided by Julie Webb, who performed a traditional belly dance for us. She chose as her victims Roger Maxwell and David Tapley, who were thoroughly embarrassed!
On Sunday we held the IMZA show and--wow--what a time! Our judge was Dr. Chris Boleman of the Texas A&M Agriculture Education Department. He was a whirlwind of education for us. I had been afraid he would judge us along traditional beef cattle characteristics. But, boy, he'd done his homework! He was very knowledgable in the breed standard of angularity combined with refinement, balance, and proportion.
Now, here's details on the slideshow: members pictured are: me(Dottie Love); my helper Emily Block from Waxahachie,TX; Roger Maxwell from Jonesboro, Lousiana; TJ Gibson from Rowlett, TX; Robin Haas from Kansas (David's sister and our ringmaster); Julie Webb from Waxahachie, TX, our show secretary and announcer; Deb Brennan from Whitesboro, TX. Deb is shown with the beautiful and sweet WHF Steel Dust, bred by David and now owned by David Tapley. Steel Dust had never worn a halter before the Fair and was so scared that he kept on with the "fainting goat act" for days, even in the ring. David Tapley and Judy Rohner are steering both babies so we will have more competition in the Steer classes next year.
Everyone went home happy with a bunch of great new friends. Enjoy the slideshow and join us next year!
