The American Miniature Zebu Association is up and running!

The Nadu-Zebu Club was started in order to educate about, promote and preserve the Miniature Zebu Cattle. It started as a small local club in Texas and immediately grew to have over 60 members from all over the U.S., Canada and Australia. With the creative energy of Suzanne McIntire, Dottie Love, Denise Hasty, and many other contributors we launched the full color Nadu-Zebu Journal. It has been nothing but growth and support since! Due to the amazing and overwhelming need, we have started the American Miniature Zebu Association, AMZA. Many, many Miniature Zebu breeders and owners have been asking for a new, full service, professional organization that is run by the people, for the people. It is now here. AMZA is a nonprofit organization that has one agenda: to promote, preserve and educate about Miniature Zebu Cattle. All members are welcome. AMZA is an inclusionary organization, not exclusionary. It is for every Miniature Zebu owner, breeder and supporter.

Many Miniature Zebu breeders have been dissatisfied with the lack of support and education available. Other organizations that register Miniature Zebu are just that, registries. We now have a new registry that will offer the
following:

Breed support and education
Full color official Miniature Zebu Journal
Show sanctioning
Judges training
Health education and research
Feed management
Hoof management
Post and prenatal calf care

Herd handling and management
Milking program
Classification and trait evaluation program
Permanent Grand Champion Status
Productivity and Longevity Status
Foundation Pure
Native Pure in Appearance
Comprehensive Breed Standard and Fault Matrix

Fully computerized database that includes the following:
Pedigree information • Color information • Height information • Animal IdentificationComplete list of present and past owners

And the list will continue as we grow and strive to promote and support all aspects of the breed.
If you are currently a member of Nadu-Zebu, then you are now a member of the AMZA. The Nadu-Zebu Journal will continue to be the official Miniature Zebu Journal of the AMZA.
We are offering an introductory registration fee of $10.00 per animal, if you register your entire herd at once. All we will need is a photocopy of your registration papers from the organization your animals are currently registered with. After the introductory offer, our registration fee is $25.00 per animal.
We will NOT have a Report of Birth, we will have a onetime registration fee, and the animal will be registered from birth. A photo will not be required to register. As we all know, most calves change color during their maturation, also many calves are the same color at birth. We feel the picture offers nothing, if both parents are registered, then the calf should be able to be registered also.
The AMZA will also be registering Herd/Ranch Names and Tattoo/Brand prefixes. We will have a onetime fee of $20.00 that will register your herd/ranch name and your tattoo/brand so that NO other breeder/owner can use your name or prefix for life, as long you are an AMZA member. This will protect both your name and your reputation.
There has been an unexpected but growing interest in the milking aspect of the breed, AMZA will be offering a milking support program for those who choose to milk their animals. This will include milking awards for volume and butterfat and recipes for those who want to use their milk.
We will be sanctioning shows so that your wins will become official and on record. There will be a Permanent Grand Champion Award for both cows and bulls. This PGCH will become a part of the animals PNR, Permanent Name Record. A bull will need 4 official show wins and a cow 3 official show wins to obtain the PGCH award. All PGCH animals will be spotlighted in the Nadu-Zebu Journal and on our official web site.
All sanctioned AMZA shows will be reported in the Nadu-Zebu Journal with pictures of the winners.
All AMZA sanctioned shows will get official show rosettes provided by the AMZA, for all Grand and Reserve Grand Champion animals.
We are developing programs to award animals that are both productive and reproductive. This will include awards that become official on the PNR of the animal based on longevity and reproductivity.
The AMZA will promote "form follows function" by creating a Trait evaluation and classification program so that everyone can have their Miniature Zebu cattle evaluated against the score card and fault matrix. This tool is highly valuable as it gives the owner a comprehensive evaluation of each animal based on its strength compared to the breed standard of the ideal Miniature Zebu. This classification and evaluation score can become a part of the animals PNR if the owner chooses. Certainly a high score will only increase the value of the animal and it's offspring!
Many quality Miniature Zebu cattle were sold over the years without papers. The AMZA will be offering a program to get those animals of quality that meet our breed standard registered. This program is called Native on Appearance. This will be an opportunity to have the unregistered animals of quality brought back into the gene pool. We have had many, many people asking for this. While it isn't inexpensive or easy, and it won't allow all that apply to enter the registry, it is an opportunity to get your quality cattle back into the registry.
AMZA is willing and ready to support all aspects of the breed; we welcome your input, comments and suggestions as well as criticisms. This organization is for you and your voice is important and necessary.
We are also looking for new talent in regards to articles for the Nadu-Zebu Journal, Web site work, Show Sanctioning, Health, Education and research etc. So if you have any interest in chairing or working on a committee please let us know! We welcome your help and talents.
Please feel free to contact me if I can help you with anything or answer any questions
